How to say, “Hello, how are you?” in Scottish Gaelic.
One of the best and most common ways to start a conversation or address someone is to ask, “How are you?”.
There are many, many, many ways to do this! Formal, colloquial, polite, slang… I should think that there are just as many ways as there are in English and, I am sure, any other language!
People often view Scottish Gaelic as this archaic language, thinking that the phrases taught in textbooks or as part of official educational learning methods are the only way to say such things.
One of the most common of those is “Hello, how are you?”
Hello, Halò (Ha-low)
How are you? Ciamar a tha thu? (Kay-mir uh ha oo): INFORMAL
How are you? Ciamar a tha sibh? (Kay-mir uh ha shiv) – FORMAL
