Donald Trump – Scotland. Donald Trump – UK. Donald Trump, anywhere.
He is so controversial. A proper love/hate character. Which is a totally out of place topic for my little blog.
I am sitting listening to Taylor Swifts new song and I just watched a video of Donald Trump saying he would attack North Korea. I am trying to put this post into perspective but I don’t know if that’s a thing where Donald Trump is concerned!
Let’s start with the fact that there are connections between Donald Trump – Scotland. Although Donald Trump is an American, his mother Mary Anne Trump was born in Tong on the Isle of Lewis. Which is where me and my family are from.
I believe some of his family still live there but choose not to talk about him. Make of that what you will. I don’t know.
Whatever you may think of Donald Trump, I have heard plenty of stories about his mother being well liked. A kind lady who never fully lost her accent or love for the Island. I think she returned as often as she could and would visit people who knew her family to look over old photos, reminisce and such. Which I think is nice.
These are the stories I hear from my family anyway. It’s such a bizarre concept really, that the son of a lady from Lewis is president. It is not met with admiration but disbelief.
I think you would struggle to find many Trump supporters on the Island and they certainly don’t want the connection broadcast quite as much as it is. But it is there.
Anyway, this post isn’t about Donald Trump and his mother I just thought some context would be useful.
This year we celebrated my grandparents Golden anniversary. Unfortunately they had hoped to go away to celebrate but due to unforeseen circumstances that was not possible so they travelled to Aberdeen to see family out here.
Not to dampen the celebrations, we wanted to surprise them for their anniversary so we booked them in to the Donald Trump – Scotland hotel out of curiosity.
When it comes to Trump, you expect everything to be so grand and over the top.
They stayed in the 5* Macleod House – named after his mother – and we booked a meal for the whole family and a room for them. As you will see in the video, there is a lot of gold. It is quite over the top. But what I do want to say is that they were treated so unbelievably well. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and they felt really special.
Starting with concern that they wouldn’t be posh enough – The staff really went out of their way to make their stay enjoyable. And knew all about Donald Trumps mother so the Isle of Lewis link was not missed.
Whatever you may think Donald Trump personally – I can’t complain about the hotel or my grandparents stay at the Donald Trump Scotland Hotel in Aberdeenshire. The staff were absolutely incredible.
